about

EPELE [A Lullaby]
Composer Daniel Galay composed an original melody to a Yiddish folk lullaby for Miriam Toukan, thus, realizing Miriam’s longtime dream to sing in Yiddish. Archbishop and theologist Dr. Elias Shakkour, previously priest at her village Ibillin, was among the first who inspired and encouraged Miriam to sing in Yiddish. The poem is taken from a collection by I”L Cohen entitled, “Yiddish Folksongs with Melodies.”
